Lea Lu Is Calling You

It would be wrong to describe Lea Lu as a “new voice”. And yet, that is exactly what she is – a new voice. “I Call You” may already be her fourth album. It is, however, the first of a new chapter in her artistic career. “I Call You” was released on 24 September 2021 via LL Records.

Born and bred in Zurich with roots in Poland, Spain, and France, Lea Lu discovered her passion for music in general, and singing in particular, as a child. Playing violin, piano and guitar, she was still a teenager when she appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival with her first band, Nexus. A self-released solo EP swiftly led to a contract with Sony Records and, in 2009, a debut album, “Dots and Lines”. A year later she won the “Best Newcomer” category at the Prix Walo, the most important Swiss show business awards. However, after more than 300 concerts and two more albums for Sony, Lea Lu took a long time out to re-evaluate her artistic aims and ambitions.

Testing the water with a self-produced EP, “I Call You”, her new “debut” album proper, reveals Lea Lu as a sophisticated singer/songwriter with a richly expressive voice and a fine ear for melodic nuances. Recorded mostly under lockdown conditions in – amongst other places – a basement in Zurich and an alpine hut, Lea Lu was able to draw on an extended family of friends ranging from Mocky in Los Angeles, via Nils Wogram, Paperface and David Zincke, to a number of exceptional Swiss musicians, including Claudio Strüby, Andreas Tschopp and Daniela Sarda.
