Frederik Reveal Themselves in “Portraits”

No, Frederik is not a single chap. Frederik are five shoe-gazers from Berne who, on 26 March 2021, released their dreamy debut album, “Portraits”. “Portraits” is delivered to us by the Danish label, Visage Copenhagen. “We release lush and curious music we believe the rest of the world should here”, it says on the label’s homepage. Clearly’ Frederik are in the right place.

Frederik were formed by guitarist Rolf Laureijs in order to explore the poppier side of his muse. He is joined by Christoph Barmettler (guitar), Laurin Huber (drums), Marie Popall (bass), and Caroline Schöbi (Synths). All musicians are familiar from a variety of other projects. Thus, Laureijs and Huber are also active as a dark-ish synth-pop duo, Wavering Hands. With Belia Winnewisser, Laureijs runs another outfit, a=f/m. Huber’s recent solo album “Hallow Ground” documented the percussionist’s passion for ambient and abstract techno experimentation. Frederik, they say, is a vehicle for all participants to explore ideas beyond their individual vision.
