Baba Shrimps, the Third

Straight in at number two – that’s the impressive first showing of Baba Shrimps’ new album in the official Swiss charts. Released on 26 March 2021 by Call of the Grizzly Records and distributed by Berlin-based Motor Music, the album’s title, “III”, reflects the fact that this is indeed the band’s third album!
Singer/guitarist Adrian Kübler-Tacchi is a lifelong folk fan; drummer Moritz Vontobel has his roots in classic rock; and keyboarder Luca Burkhalter is most at home in electronica. Together for a full decade, the unlikely trio of friends have shared their tastes as well as their talents to become one of the most successful pop-rock acts in Switzerland. With a rich sound that belies the fact it’s only three people producing it, their most important asset is their ability to craft memorable melodies aligned to subtly layered vocal harmonies. Having recorded their previous album with David Kosten in London (number 6 in the Swiss charts), this time round Baba Shrimps stayed in Zurich to work with Thomas Fessler, a man who has worked with many of the most successful Swiss artists, including Sina, Michael von der Heide and Florian Ast.
Not letting Covid-19 dampen their spirits, Baba Shrimp are celebrating the release of their album with a streaming-tour. In another imaginative move to alleviate the Covid-blues, they have asked fans for their favourite piano stories which. These are re-told in a series of 23 mini films to go with the release of their single “Twenty-Three”.
