Ghost Festival – 27 + 28 February – The Everything-but-the-Festival Festival
Yippee – a festival that is actually taking place… sort of! Scheduled for two days, 27 and 28 February 2021, the Ghost Festival boasts a fantastic line-up, ridiculously cheap tickets and a neat line in merchandise that includes fully recyclable tents and t-shirts. The only things missing are a venue, a running order, and, indeed, any kind of performance!
Launched by the Ghost Club Collective in Berne, the Ghost Festival is a mostly virtual venture to generate solidarity as well as the semblance of an income for musicians as well as stage crews laid low and unpaid since the beginning of the pandemic lockdown almost one whole year ago.
Nearly three hundred acts have agreed to lend their names to the Ghost Festival, including major crowd pullers. The lineup reads like a „who’s who“ of the Swiss music scene – on many of them SME reports regularly in the newsletter.
Tickets – these are very real, and so is the merchandise! – cost a humane 20 Swiss Francs (around £ 15) for one day, 50.- Francs for the two days, and 100.- Francs for a special access-all- areas VIP pass. None of these tickets will entitle the holder to anything but a feeling of satisfaction for having supported Swiss musicians and their crews. The money generated in this way will be evenly divided up amongst the 1278 artists and stage workers who have applied for help. Many of the better-known acts are donating their “fees” to the pool in order to support their less well-off colleagues. Definitely one not to miss!
