Crème Solaire – Burning Hot Sun Lotion

Crème Solaire – aka suntan cream – is meant to protect from sun burn. This Crème Solaire does anything but! Combining the electronic punk nous of Pascal Stoll and the fiery vocals of Rebecca Solari, Crème Solaire call their music “electro-punk-glitch-hop-absurd-pop”, and they’re not wrong. “Pannenstreifen ist ohne pic-nic” is their second album, and it certainly isn’t a picnic. Released on 5 February 2021 jointly by We Don’t Make It Records and Augeil Records, the album serves up a burning hot stew of anger, wit and dead catchy melodies. Plus, the vinyl version comes with a booklet that describes the release of itself in a theatre play!

Fribourg has long been a hotbed of original music making. Though barely in their mid-twenties, Solari and Stoll have been an integral part of a music scene that refuses to follow the trends of the larger cities, preferring to set up their own rules simply in order to break them. Stoll began his musical quest with a metal band, Unexisting Structures, followed by a rap group, Lélents, a guitar/vocal duo called Lower Board, another band named Gjon’s Tears, and his own solo project, Scalpel. Solari first made a name for herself with the female five-piece, Femme Feuillage. With Crème Solaire they promise to ignore conventions even more rigorously than with any of their other projects.
