Kush K Meet the Lotus-Eaters
The Lotophagi were a mystical people whom Odysseus came across on a distant island, and who ate nothing but the wondrously intoxicating lotus fruit. “Lotophagi” is also the title of Kush K’s debut album.
The title is wisely chosen. Kush K, a quartet grouped around songwriter and lead vocalist Catia Lanfranchi, apart from the usual guitars and drums, list synths, organic organ and flugelhorn amongst their instruments. Together, they produce an intriguingly vague and yet intimately organic sound whose stylistic influences are very hard to figure out. Funnily enough, the closest similarity this writer can think of is another young Swiss band, Black Sea Dahu. The mystery makes this album all the more interesting, of course.
Kush K were one of the bands booked to appear at Great Escape festival in Brighton.
“Lotophagi” was released on 24 April BlauBlau Records and is distributed via Irascible.
