Tobias Preisig Dives Deep

Tobias Preisig, violinist extraordinaire, composer and improviser, has at long last got round to recording a solo album. Entitled “Diver”, it was released on 1 November via Quiet Love Records. Now based in Berlin, Preisig has toured the world in recent years as one half of the spectacular drums/violin duo Egopusher. Effortlessly gliding between different musical worlds including electronica, new music and classical, experimental rock, and ambient, he has never accepted the confines of stylistic boxes to limit the scope of his musical vision.

The recording of “Diver” took place during an intense three-week period of work in Preisig’s studio across the road from a football stadium in Berlin. “The violin tends to be associated…with prestige and a high degree of technical virtuosity.” says Preisig. “As a result, there is a tendency and a temptation for violinists to demonstrate their prowess on the instrument. This is something that interests me less and less…I have learnt to create tension by holding back instead of filling each piece up to the brim with ideas. I have boiled down my vocabulary in order to concentrate on telling a story that is truly my own.” Produced by Jan Wagner, “Diver” is a beautiful album full of space, calmness and light.
