Diamonds are forever

There can’t be a spookier and more mysterious track out there just now then “Diamonds” by Yao Bobby and Simon Grab featuring Dhangsha aka Dr. Das, co-founder of Asian Dub Foundation!

Embedded in a minimalist layer of dark boom beats, the Togolese rapper and political activist Yao Bobby tells a similarly minimalist and hypnotic story in his own language that could be a lullaby or a lament, we don’t know. Given the title, however, we suspect it might be a rather more angry and political text. Simon Grab is a member of Norient, the independent network for local and global sounds and mediaculture as well as a co-founder of Zurich’s Motherland Collective.

The “Diamonds” EP was released worldwide, digitally, and in a vinyl edition limited to 200 by Bristol-based LavaLava Records on 24 September 2019. The duo was accompanied on a short tour to celebrate this release by Dhangsha.
