Sportelli confronts his fears

Fear and Courage” is the title of Biel-based singer/songwriter Sportelli’s second album, released at the end of January.

Six years have elapsed since Sportelli’s debut album “One of the Lost”. It earned him a “Best Talent” award from the national radio station, SRF3, and a long list of reputation-enhancing support slots with the likes of Birdy, Richard Thompson, Aloe Blacc and the Nits. He has lost none of the exuberance and verve that made his live performances so memorable and enjoyable back then, and neither has he lost the ear for a catchy chorus and a neat turn of phrase. Whilst Sportelli’s own description of the style of his new album might be a tad baffling – he calls it “jungle ocean pop” – it cannot be disputed that the new songs sound as refreshingly direct as the old. Whilst displaying his trademark mixture of acoustic guitar, beatbox rhythms, sounds of nature and a huge dollop of enthusiasm, the mood of “Fear and Courage”, thanks to a newly acquired cello, is perhaps a little more reflective – and all the more satisfying for that.

Fear and Courage” is released in the GSA countries. A promo campaign is coordinated by the Berlin-based PR companies Pink Brain & Bite It Promotion.
