Me + Marie with “Double Purpose”

17 August sees the release of “Double Purpose”, the follow-up to Me + Marie’s much admired debut album from a couple of years ago. Entitled “Double Purpose”, it comes out via Capriola / Blanko Musik.

Me + Marie is the “super group” formed by Maria Moling and Roland Scandella. Drummer Maria is also known as Maria de Val of the string-driven Southern Tyrolian Ladin-chanson outfit Ganes. Roland Scandella aka Roland Vögtli used to be a member of the Grisons-based rock band Nau and has performed solo as a singer/songwriter. Moling and Vögtli ran into each other when the latter was producing a radio show with Maria for the Romansh-speaking channel of national Swiss radio SRF. They got on like a house on fire, bonding over their love of their respective local cultures and languages, Ladin and Romansh.

The band have played countless shows at home and abroad in the last two years. Making their second album, however, they hit the proverbial creative wall. Rather than giving in, they worked their way through it, climbing the occasional metaphorical as well as real mountain in the process. “Double Purpose” oozes confidence and determination and sounds a touch grungier than their debut. To celebrate the release, the band have announced an extended tour of Germany, Switzerland and Austria that starts in late August and ends in mid-December.
