Evelinn Trouble feeling hopeful

Evelinn Trouble rarely does the same thing twice. Thus, her brand new EP, “Hope Music”, released on 4 May via Radicalis, marks another unexpected and intriguing twist in this Zurich-born and raised singer/songwriter’s career. Making a conscious effort to counter the pessimism of contemporary urban life, she has excised all traces of irony and cynicism in her music and lyrics in order to embrace a new found sense of hope and trust.

The daughter of a Swedish jazz singer and pianist, Evelinn Trouble grew up with music. Still a teenager, she joined the band of Sophie Hunger who was living in the same part of Zurich. Her own early music was synth-based. However, after her debut album she took to the guitar, developing an idiosyncratic style of rock not a million miles away from the more volatile end of PJ Harvey’s palette of sounds. A serious accident – Trouble had climbed on the roof of a train and received a near-fatal electric shock – led to a re-assessment of her priorities. She relocated to London and recorded two more albums in Bristol, earning her living by composing and playing music for theatre productions mostly in Switzerland. More recently, driven once again by her restless spirit, she has moved to Berlin. “Hope Music”, Evelinn Trouble promises, is the first taster of a new chapter in her development as a song writer and musician. An album is to follow later in the year.

Last but not least, Evelinn Trouble just won the official 2018 Swiss Music Prize for exceptional and innovative Swiss musicians.
