Aisha Devi delivers new album

11 May sees the release of Aisha Devi’s second album, “DNA Feelings”, on the London-based Houndstooth label, founded by the legendary Fabric Club.

Nomen est omen in the case of Aisha Devi, the Geneva-born electronica experimenter and classically trained soprano with family roots in Nepal. Starting off with a fairly conventional brand of dancey electronica and the name Kate Wax, she began to explore all kinds of vocal traditions beyond those of her twin origins, Switzerland and Nepal, eventually arriving at a mesmerising and unique brand of psychedelic world electronica and a name which she feels is a much better expression of her musical spirit, Aisha Devi.

According to Houndstooth, Devi’s music is built on “thumping beats and rave stabs, seraphic and guttural throat singing, mystical linguistics and corporeal sonics”. The leading British avant-garde music magazine Wire carries a two-page feature about Devi in its May issue, writing amongst many other complimentary things that “the vibrational rave of the Swiss born Nepalese-Tibetan vocalist and producer is designed to move bodies at both subatomic and social levels.”
