Sunny vibes from Wintershome

Around You I Found You”, that is the pleasingly circular-sounding title of the debut album of Wintershome, a six-piece hailing from the famous winter resort Zermatt in the shadow of the Matterhorn at the heart of Switzerland. It is released on 6 April in Switzerland via Irascible and on 27 April in Germany via Rough Trade.

If the name Pirmin Zurbriggen sounds familiar, it probably won’t – yet! – be because he is one of the six voices of Wintershome. It’s more likely that the name rings a bell because the other Pirmin Zurbriggen who was the winner of countless ski races and a multiple World and Olympic champion. However, the truly famous Pirmin Zurbriggen is the father of the not quite so famous Pirmin Z. and his two sisters who are all members of this band. Two more are part of an old dynasty of hoteliers and restauranteurs in Zermatt. At their first ever live gig in one of their family’s restaurants, Anni-Frid Lyngstad from ABBA was at hand to dispense some much-appreciated advice.

Wintershome’s sound is a poppy shade of semi-acoustic folk, at home somewhere between Mumford & Sons and the Mamas & the Papas. What gives the music a truly unique touch is the blend of six strong voices combined with supremely catchy songs and an all-round sunny vibe. “Around You I Found You” was recorded in rural Washington State, USA, with producer Ryan Hadlock. A Grammy winner, Hadlock has also worked with the Lumineers, Vance Joy, and, best of all, Brandi Carlile.
