Rolling with Da Cruz
“This music is wet and heavy, dark and sparkling, sensual and gloomy” wrote the venerable French magazine Les Inrocks about Da Cruz. The description gets it pretty much spot on.
Released by Boom Jah Records/Broken Silence on 6 October (most of the world) and on 1 December (Brasil) “Eco do Futuro” is the fourth album the band has recorded in the ten years since Sao Paolo-born Mariana Da Cruz was brought to Switzerland by a hefty attack of love. Whilst Mariana grew up with the Bossa Nova and the Samba of her country, her musical partner Ane H was steeped in Suicide, Fela and Nine Inch Nails. In a band that also includes guitar, drums and a brass section, all these diverse elements are melded together to produce the truly hot broth that so impressed Les Inrocks. Whilst “Eco do Futuro” never stands still, musically or rhythmically, Mariana’s lyrics take a close look at the world we live in today. “Brazil is in the process of losing her smile,” says Mariana. “It is a process that I find truly painful to watch.”
To support the album release, Da Cruz will play a number of dates in Germany and Switzerland throughout November before touring Brazil in December. More German dates will follow in January.
