Faber’s debut Album is unleashed

He has released no more than a couple of EPs so far and is still only in his early twenties, but Faber’s debut is one of the most hotly anticipated albums in Germany this year. Entitled “Sei ein Faber im Wind” and released by Universal Music Domestic Vertigo/Capitol, it will at last see the light of day on 7 July 2017.

Born in Zurich to Italian parents, Faber decided early in his life to become a musician. Steeped in Italian canzoni sung by the likes of Adriano Celentano, Umberto Tozzi and Eros Ramazotti, he soon earned a good crust by entertaining the diners of the many Italian restaurants in his hometown. When he began to write his own songs, he not only decided to integrate these influences in his songs, but also to sing in German. This was an exceptionally courageous decision – amongst local music fans, German is often regarded as a language suitable only for cheesy “Schlager” lyrics. Fortuitously, Faber turned out to be a supremely gifted lyricist, delighting in clever and yet totally unpretentious word play, turning clichés on their head with a swift verbal sleight of hand.

Sophie Hunger, Switzerland’s most successful musical export of recent years, was quick to realise the young man’s potential and invited him to support her on a lengthy European tour. Signed by Irrsinn Management, another tour on the same bill as AnnenMayKantereit followed soon after. Faber hasn’t looked back since.

“Sei ein Faber im Wind” was recorded in Berlin’s Hansa Studios with producer Tim Tautorat (Manic Street Preachers, AnnenMayKantereit, Herbert Grönemeyer, etc.). Lacing his songs with all sorts of sonic surprises – a trombone here, a hint of circus music there – and fitting neatly into the song writing tradition of Jacques Brel and Vinicio Capossela, Faber has dropped a classic at his first attempt.

To support the album release, Faber will undertake a massive tour during the second half of 2017. Starting on 8 July with the Openair Wettingen in Switzerland, and ending on 22 December at the Dachstock in Bern, he will play no fewer than fifty dates in Germany, mostly, Switzerland and Austria, including performances at the Haldern-Pop Festival and the C/o-Festival in Cologne.
