The Chikitas’s new album lands them in the “Wrong Motel”
The Chikitas – Saskia Fuertes (drums, vocals) and Lynn Maring (guitar, vocals) – have had a great couple of years. The winners of the rock awards at the m4music demo clinic as well as Swiss Music Talent have been touring incessantly, gathering new fans and friends everywhere with their incendiary two-woman show of fierce rock’n’roll independence.
With their second album, “Distoris Clitortion”, driven by the unforgettable single “La La La La”, the Chikitas found their voice. Now, with their third, “Wrong Motel”, they have also succeeded in capturing the full throttle energy of their live shows in a studio environment. Not just any studio, mind you, but the producer Jim Waters’s Waterworks Studios in Tucson, Arizona. Waters, who has produced records by the likes of Sonic Youth, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, R.L. Burnside and Brian Lopez, likes to work predominantly with analogue recording techniques. These suited the Chikitas perfectly. Never before have they sounded quite as raw and dynamic.
To support the release, the Chikitas will be touring Switzerland throughout May. They will also be playing at the Europavox Festival in Clermond-Ferrand in France.
“Wrong Motel” was released by deepdive records on 29 April. Physical distribution is via h’Art and Bertus (France, Benelux etc.). Digital distribution is through Believe Digital.
