Brand new album “Numerals” from Disco Doom
Zurich-based quartet Disco Doom’s fifth full album “Numerals” was released on 7 February on Defer Records (EU/Switzerland), and on 11 February on Exploding in Sound Records (USA/Canada). The album is available as a digital download and on vinyl.
Disco Doom are one of longest-serving, most popular and also internationally most successful guitar-driven bands from Switzerland. Formed in 1996 by Gabriele de Mario (guitar, vocals) and Anita Rufer (guitar, vocals), they have consistently followed their own path of a post-Sonic Youth- and -Deerhunter-kind of hypnotic rock songs. The present line-up includes bassist Flo Götte and drummer Michael Krummenerl. Disco Doom’s international breakthrough came when they supported American band Built to Spill on a few Swiss dates. The Americans were so impressed by the band they invited Disco Doom to tour with them in the United States. The close relationship between these two bands has endured. As recently as autumn 2013 Disco Doom supported Built to Spill on a 25-date European tour, taking in 15 countries and a date at the legendary Electric Ballroom in London.
“Numerals” was premiered in the USA one week before its official release thanks to an album stream set up by Pitchfork web magazine. Even earlier, one song from the album, “Ex Teenager”, caused quite a few ripples of excitement. “Urban Outfitters” chose “Ex Teenager” for their shop soundtrack. Webzines and magazines like Pitchfork, Stereogum and Paperblog described it as “existential drama”, “hook-filled rocker”, “pastoral psychedelia” and “straightforward post-psych rocker”. To tie in with the release of “Numerals” Disco Doom play a handful of gigs in Switzerland before embarking on a 20-odd-date tour of the United States.
