The Beauty of Gemina reinvent themselves

Formed in 2008 by vocalist and keyboards man Michael Sele (Ex-Nuuk), the Beauty of Gemina rapidly gained a strong international following for their darkly theatrical brand of Gothic-Progressive Rock. Closely linked to the German dark wave/dark electro record label Danse Macabre, their previous four albums displayed a strong sense of melody with hints of a classical influence. This influence comes to the fore in their latest work, “The Myrrh Sessions”. Recorded exclusively with acoustic instruments, the album contains a mixture of new songs and new arrangements of some of their favourite older tracks. Instead of electronic keyboards, Michael Sele here plays grand piano as well as Spanish guitar. To accentuate the classical touch, the band is augmented by two violins and a cello. Even before its release “The Myrrh Sessions” has already brought the band high praise, with long-established German alternative magazine Zillo devoting the cover story of their March 2013 issue to the Beauty of Gemina, calling their music “courageous and timeless”.

“The Myrrh Sessions” was released in Switzerland on 15 February – an event the band celebrated with a special showcase at Moods in Zurich. The German and worldwide release followed on 22 February. The band will embark on a major tour of Germany in April. They are also confirmed to play the Castle Party Fest in Bolkow, Poland, on 13 July, and the Amphi Festival in Cologne, Germany, on 21 July.
