M4Music Festival, Conference & Demotape Clinic

Over the past fifteen years, the annual M4Music Festival, Conference and Demotape Clinic has become firmly established as the most vibrant and diverse music business event of the year in Switzerland. 6600 music fans and 700 music business professionals attended the 2012 edition of the festival, breaking all attendance records. The organisers are confident that this year’s program will attract even more interest. M4Music is an event produced under the aegis of Migros Kulturprozent.

The event starts on Thursday 21st March at Les Docks in Lausanne with the Best Swiss Video Clip Award Show. Chaired by Paris-based video director Tony T. Datis who lists Skrillex, Katy Perry and Modeselektor amongst his clients, the jury will select the Swiss video clip to be awarded the first prize of sFr. 5’000.-. A second award of sFr. 5’000.- will go to the winner of a public internet vote. The award show is followed by a reception for music business professionals and by the evening’s live performances by Domi Chansorn (winner of the “Demo of the Year” at the Demo Tape Clinic 2012), WhoMadeWho and Totally Extinct Dinosaurs.

On Friday, 22nd March, M4Music moves on to the Schiffbau complex in Zurich. During the afternoon, in a series of panel meetings and keynote speeches, topics such as “Everything Is Streaming but the Money”, “Copyright in the Digital Age” and "How To Capture The British Market" will be discussed by a number of well-known experts in the field. The topics of Saturday’s panel discussions range from “Music Television in the Age of the Internet” to “Artist Development 2016” and “European Hotspots”. These events are free to the public.

Free to the public, too, are the hugely popular Demo Tape Clinics spread over Friday and Saturday. Artists are invited to submit one of their recordings from which the organisers select the best in each genre, Pop, Electronic, Rock and Urban. A jury consisting of four experts will be discussing in public and with the artists present the merits of their submissions and select the winner in each genre. The winners receive the Fondation SUISA Award of sFr. 3’000.- each. M4Music will then choose the overall winner of the “Demo of the Year” award which comes with a prize of sFr. 5’000.- The best tracks of the competition will be collected on a compilation album, “The Best of Demotape Clinic”.

Friday and Saturday evening’s concert program is spread across four venues, the large Schiffbau Halle, Box, Moods and Exil. Amongst the artists performing are Jamie Lidell, Foals, Walk off the Earth, Delphic, Evelinn Trouble and Dead Bunny.
