Who is Swiss Music Export?
Swiss Music Export is a Non-Profit-Organisation and a joint venture run by Pro Helvetia, Stiftung Phonoproduzierende, Fondation SUISA, Fondation CMA, and Schweizerische Interpretenstiftung SIS.
SME defines itself as the Swiss organisation responsible for the export of contemporary pop music. In order to be able to fulfil this task in an efficient manner, SME is constantly assessing and developing its structures and resources as well as its positioning in the market.
Frame of Action
Swiss Music Export’s activities are focused on contemporary pop music. “Pop” is defined by SME in its broadest way as “music whose business methods fall within the framework of pop or rock music and which can usefully be supported with the tools available to SME”.
Swiss Music Export supports the work of artists identified as having a realistic chance of success in their respective target market. Their music must show clear export potential. They must also demonstrate the existence of a realistic and promising export plan. In its support of such plans, SME may decide on individual focus points. In its work, SME pays attention to an appropriate gender ratio among the artists supported.
Scope of Action
The work of Swiss Music Export is generally focused on Europe, especially the German and French speaking music markets. Exceptions in other markets are possible.
Areas of Action
Swiss Music Export facilitates the entry for Swiss acts into the “live circuit” of the markets listed above.
Swiss Music Export also supports the distribution of produced Swiss music in all formats to the above markets (distribution, publishing, sync, etc.).
Tools
Swiss Music Export will employ mostly, though not exclusively, the following tools:
- Presentation of Swiss acts at international conferences and festivals abroad, and providing networking opportunities.
- Financial support of promotional activities related to digital and physical distribution of music and live tours
- Financial support for activities designed to facilitate access to the live business, that is: showcases, link-ups with booking agencies, etc. However, support for regular tours will not be available.
- Invitations to business professionals from abroad to festivals and music business events in Switzerland with the aim to introduce these to specific Swiss acts, and to provoke follow-up activities.
- Setting up panels, workshops and networking sessions.
Partners and Co-operations
In order to fulfil its aims, Swiss Music Export can co-operate with any of the member partners in the organisation. Additionally, SME is free to set up other partnerships if these serve to fulfil its strategic aims.

Wer ist Swiss Music Export?
Swiss Music Export ist ein Verein, der von Pro Helvetia, der Stiftung Phonoproduzierende, FONDATION SUISA und der Schweizerischen Interpretenstiftung SIS getragen wird und eng mit der Fondation CMA zusammenarbeitet.
SME ist die Schweizer Organisation für den Export aktueller Popmusik. Um dieser Aufgabe gerecht zu werden, entwickelt SME seine Strukturen und Ressourcen wie auch seine Positionierung konstant weiter.
Aktionsrahmen
Swiss Music Export arbeitet im Feld der aktuellen Popmusik. Pop wird von SME in einem erweiterten Sinne betrachtet und als „Musik deren Businessmethoden im selben Rahmen funktionieren wie im Pop- oder Rockbereich und welche mit den Tools von SME umgesetzt werden können“ definiert.
Swiss Music Export arbeitet mit Künstlerinnen und Künstlern mit einer realistischen Chance in deren Zielmarkt. Deren Musik weist ein klares Exportpotenzial auf und deren Umfeld einen erfolgversprechenden Exportplan. Dabei können durch SME Schwerpunkte gesetzt werden. SME achtet bei ihrer Arbeit auf einen angemessenen Anteil der Geschlechter bei den geförderten Artists.
Aktionsradius
Die Arbeit von Swiss Music Export ist im Allgemeinen auf Europa fokussiert, hauptgewichtig in den deutschsprachigen und frankofonen Musikmärkten. Ausnahmen in anderen Märkten sind möglich.
Aktionsfelder
Swiss Music verhilft Schweizer Acts zum Eintritt in die „Live-Circuits“ obengenannter Märkte und stärkt dort ihre Position.
Swiss Music Export unterstützt auch die Verbreitung von produzierter Schweizer Musik in allen Formaten in die genannten Märkte (Vertrieb, Verlag, Sync, usw.)
Instrumente
Swiss Music Export nutzt dazu hauptsächlich, jedoch nicht ausschliesslich, folgenden Instrumente:
- Präsentation und Vernetzung von Schweizer Acts an internationalen Messen und Festivals im Ausland
- Finanzielle Unterstützung von Promotionsaktivitäten im Zusammenhang mit digitalem und physischem Vertrieb von Musik sowie Live-Tourneen im Ausland
- Finanzierung von Massnahmen, die den Eintritt ins Live-Business ermöglichen und stärken: Showcases, Vermittlung von Booking-Agenturen, u.a.m, jedoch keinen Support für reguläre Tourneen
- Einladung von ausländischen Akteuren an Schweizer Festivals und Events mit dem Ziel Schweizer Acts zu präsentieren und Follow-ups zu provozieren
- Organisation von Panels, Workshops und Networking-Tools
Partner und Kooperationen
Swiss Music Export kann zur Umsetzung ihrer Ziele mit den im Verein vertretenen Organisationen zusammenarbeiten sowie zusätzliche Partnerschaften eingehen, wenn diese den strategischen Zielen förderlich sind.

Qui est Swiss Music Export?
Swiss Music Export est une association soutenue par Pro Helvetia, la Fondation des producteurs de phonogrammes, la Fondation SUISA et la Fondation suisse des artistes interprètes SIS. SME travaille en étroite collaboration avec la Fondation CMA.
SME est l’organisation suisse de référence pour l’export des musiques actuelles. Pour remplir ce rôle, SME développe continuellement ses structures et ses ressources ainsi que son positionnement.
Cadre d‘action
Swiss Music Export est actif dans le domaine des musiques actuelles. Celles-ci doivent être interprétées au sens large du terme et comprennent « toutes musiques qui ont des fonctionnements commerciaux similaires à ceux des musiques actuelles, qui peuvent être soutenus par les actions de SME ».
Swiss Music Export travaille avec des artistes qui ont une chance réaliste sur un marché cible défini. Leur musique fait preuve d’un évident potentiel d’export et l’entourage des artistes fait valoir un plan d’export prometteur. SME peut alors convenir de priorités. SME veille à ce que la part des genres parmi les artistes soutenus soit équitable.
Rayon d‘action
Les actions de Swiss Music Export se concentrent en règle générale sur l’Europe, prioritairement sur les marchés francophone et germanophone. Des exceptions sur d’autres marchés sont possibles.
Champs d’action
Swiss Music Export aide les artistes suisses à accéder au « circuit live » desdits marchés et y renforce leur position.
Parallèlement, Swiss Music Export soutient et favorise la diffusion de supports son de tout genre. (distribution, éditions, synchronisation).
Outils
Swiss Music Export opère principalement, mais pas exclusivement, avec les outils suivants:
- Présentation et mise en réseau d’artistes suisses lors de foires et de festivals internationaux à l’étranger ;
- Soutien financier aux actions promotionnelles en lien avec la diffusion de supports son, digitaux et physiques, et de tournées à l’étranger ;
- Financement de mesures qui permettent ou renforcent le positionnement d’artistes dans les circuits live : showcases, mise en relation avec des structures de booking, de management, etc. ; mais pas de soutien financier aux tournées régulières ;
- Invitation de professionnels étrangers à des festivals et événements en Suisse, dans le but de présenter des artistes suisses et de déclencher un suivi commercial ;
- Organisation de panels, workshops et d’outils de réseautage.
Partenaires et collaborations
Pour atteindre ses objectifs, Swiss Music Export peut collaborer avec les organisations membres de SME et/ou conclure des partenariats externes, si cela peut servir ses buts stratégiques.
