Bonaparte launch “The Return of Stravinsky Wellington”

2 June 2017 saw the release on Believe Digital/Bonaparte of the latest album from maverick producer, songwriter and guitarist Tobias Jundt. “The Return of Stravinsky Wellington” marks a major departure from Jundt’s previous work with the hydra-headed Bonaparte outfit he has carefully raised and nurtured since his move from Switzerland to Berlin.

In the past, Bonaparte dazzled their audiences with spectacular live shows peppered with strange masks, camp posturing, and a lot of naked skin. Their music, meanwhile, was a delightful mixture of glam rock, Prince-ish funk and the sort of dead-pan lyrics Sparks are so fond of. In their new guise, as presented on this, their fifth album, the music is as witty as ever, though much calmer, if not to say serious-minded. Reflecting Jundt’s new status as a father, the new songs frequently concern themselves with the state of the world today. Jundt being Jundt, however, we are never more than a few beats away from the next catchy chorus and the next sharp line.
