Swiss Music Export at the Reeperbahn Festival 21 – 24 September 2016, Hamburg

The Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg is one of Swiss Music Export’s very favourite festivals – and we would like to share it with you!

Setting the scene for an intense winter season of conferences and music business get-togethers, the Reeperbahn is the one we definitely would not want to miss. Always musically exciting, it is also one the most useful and enjoyable festivals for networking purposes and social life. A wide-ranging program of events and panel discussions will bring together 30’000 music fans and business professionals to discover and appreciate new trends, business ideas and technology visions. There will be a massive choice of 600 different events in around seventy venues.

Without wishing to sound smug – Swiss Music Export was there from the beginning, when everything was still very small and cosy, we sensed that here was a special event in the making. Naturally, we will be there again this year. As ever, we have lined up a mouth-watering selection of networking events and showcases.

To make our various offerings still more irresistible, applicants via Swiss Music Export will be offered a special discount price for the conference ticket of € 155, plus VAT and systems fee. The deadline for the registration is Tuesday, 20 September 2016. For more information please contact: mixer@swiss-music-export.com

All SME events will take place on the same day, Friday 23 September 2016, in the same venue, the splendidly retro and cocktail-soaked Sommersalon @ Klubhaus St. Paul, Spielbudenplatz 22, Hamburg

Live:
14:15 – 14:45 Fai Baba
15:30 – 16:00 Laskaar
16:45 – 17:15 Me + Marie

Fai Baba
Fai Baba is first of all a great guitarist, combining hefty blues riffs with psychedelic whimsy and lyrical beauty. He is also a fearless songwriter who does not shy away from a hint of T. Rex, a touch of Espers, or a dollop of Düül.

Laskaar
A singer/songwriter with a supple and velvety voice, set apart from the rest by his ability to weave a strong mood with subtle, spacious and yet dynamic arrangements of electronic beats and sounds.

Me + Marie
A “super-group” consisting of Maria Moling (aka Maria de Val of the South Tyrolian Ladin-chanson outfit Ganes), Roland Scandella (aka Roland Vögtli from the Grisons-based rock band Nau), and guitarist Tom Wörndl recently released a calm and confident debut album, “One Eyed Love”.

All acts appearing at the Swiss Business Mixer will also play shows as part of the regular Reeperbahn Festival programme.

Swiss Night @ Sommersalon

Friday 23 September 2016 – 20:00 – 01:00
Sommersalon @ Klubhaus St. Pauli

This year for the first time, Swiss music will continue deep into the night after the SME Business Mixer. The Reeperbahn Festival’s team of bookers has selected two bands each from Zurich and Basel for a special “Swiss Night @ Sommersalon”. It is the perfect time to present these acts in this context as all four are in the middle of tours of Germany and Europe and should be at the peak of their live powers.

This show is co-presented by the City of Zurich and the Region of Basel, in cooperation with RFV Basel, Stadt Zürich Kultur, and SME. The same entry conditions apply as for all other public concerts at the festival.

Live:
20:15 – 21:00 Odd Beholder
21:30 – 22:15 Bleu Roi
22:45 – 23:30 Serafyn
00:00 – 01:00 Wolfman

Odd Beholder
Odd Beholder are an electronic duo distantly related in style to Portishead, though a little less dark and more minimalist in approach. Their dreaminess is largely due to Daniela Weinmann’s eerie vocals. Their new Single “Lighting” is released by Sinnbus on 16 September.

Bleu Roi
The quartet from Basel have recently returned from New York where they recorded their debut album. The band quote Bon Yver and Daughter as influences. They combine electronic elements with organic guitar and drums and the haunting vocal style of Jennifer Jans.

Serafyn
Three women from Basel with acoustic guitars, celli and a bewitching blend of voices, Serafyn were formed in 2013 and have since toured with Fink, Tanita Tikaram and Intergalactic Lovers.

Wolfman
Wolfman are Katerina Stoykova (vox, keys) and Angelo Repetto (vocals, guitar). Theirs is a multifaceted and atmospheric style of electro pop with a strong rhythmic undertow and unexpected sound surprises. Their second album “Modern Age” will be released in Germany via Cargo on 16 September.
