Enjoy the Paléo Festival Nyon (Switzerland) with Swiss Music Export – 19 – 24 July 2016

We at Swiss Music Export and Fondation CMA count ourselves very lucky indeed to find one of the most diverse, colourful and inspirational festivals in Europe right on our door step!

Founded as a folk festival in 1976, the Paléo Festival Nyon has long since developed into a six-day gourmet feast of great musical surprises. Set in the beautiful countryside near Lake Geneva, the atmosphere of the festival with its surreally innovative architectural spaces is special. It regularly drives performers to new levels of intensity and abandon. Many acts fondly regard their Paléo performances as amongst their very best, or, at the very least, most enjoyable. Alongside a mouth-watering palette of stars including Muse, Michel Polnareff, Louise Attaque, Massive Attack, Stephan Eicher and Chemical Brothers, the festival also offers a large and ever growing proportion of Swiss artists.

Needless to say, the Paléo also attracts a large number of representatives from all corners of the European music business. In 2015 alone, well over 500 media representatives reported from the festival. This year, there are bound to be more. With the offices of both SME and FCMA situated in nearby Nyon, this counts as our very own home festival. Naturally, therefore, we will be working especially hard to create a platform for music business professionals from across Europe to meet up and exchange ideas and visions with their Swiss counterparts.

** Music Business Brunch
Wednesday 20 July 2016
13h30 – 15h30

As always, the traditional Music Business Brunch organised jointly by SME and FCMA at our offices in Rue Saint-Jean 1, 1260 Nyon (five minutes‘ walk from Nyon train station) offers an ideal opportunity to strike up new connections and friendships with record company representatives, artist managers, promoters, journalists, agents and, of course, artists. The Brunch also has a musical side with a showcase performance by the Mauritian/Swiss blues duo The Two.

Access to this hugely popular event is by invitation only. Anyone wishing to attend please contact: adelaide@swiss-music-export.com

The Music Business Brunch is not the only opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of SME and FCMA.

** Showcases @ the Cosmo
19 – 24 July 2016
16h30

Starting from Tuesday 19 July, SME in partnership with FCMA will be showcasing one band each day for the rest of the duration of the Paléo. These events will take place at the Cosmo in Nyon and start at 16:30. To facilitate networking and conversation, following the performances an apéro will be served courtesy of Paléo. Entry is free to anyone accredited to the Paléo with a category C badge.

This is the programme of SME/FCMA Showcases @ the Cosmo:

Tuesday, 19 July: LiA (indie/chanson)
LiA is the singer/songwriter Félicien Donzé. Félicien is one of the most exciting, musically as well as verbally innovative voices of the burgeoning young French Swiss „chanson“ scene. His second album „Quand l’Homme s’endort“, was recorded in Brussels with Simon Gerber and released last autumn.
LiA also appears as part of the regular Paléo programme on Wednesday, 20 July

Wednesday, 20 July: Egopusher (electro/organic free form rock)
Egopusher are drummer Alessandro Giannelli and violinist extraordinaire Tobias Preisig. Both also play various electronic devices. It is an unusual combination of instruments the surprising possibilities of which the duo exploit to the fullest in a live set of immense power and depth.
Egopusher also appear as part of the regular Paléo programme on the same day.

Thursday, 21 July: Le Roi Angus (indie/chanson)
Jangling and twanging guitars (and an occasionally quirky sense of humour) underpin the atmospheric chansons of this young five-piece. Le Roi Angus‚ debut album was released last autumn by Cheptel records.
Le Roi Angus also appear as part of the regular Paléo programme on the same day.

Friday, 22 July: Pandour (psychedelic electronica/post-rock)
Combining swirling guitars with percussion and a variety of electronic ingredients, Pandour, a four-piece from Fribourg, serve up an otherworldly, psychedelic kind of post-rock with strong hypnotic tendencies.
Pandour also appear as part of the regular Paléo programme on Wednesday, 20 July.

Saturday, 23 July: Simpig (Dubstep)
Simpig are two chaps called Shake it Machine and Mr. Pigman. They hail from Biel and, according to their Soundcloud page, have been „breaking bass borders since 2009“. Driven by busy beats, their idiosyncratic and bright brand of Dubstep is both danceable and atmospheric.
Simpig also appear as part of the regular Paléo programme on the same day.

The other Swiss acts appearing at Paléo are: Antipods, Eluveitie, Jas Crw, Stephan Eicher und die Automaten, Coilguns, Feldermelder plays „Erratic“, Kiku & Blixa Bargeld & Black Cracker, The Animen, Aliose, Promethee, Stéphanie Blanchoud, Vouipe, Anach Cuan, Tatum Rush.
