Swiss Music Export @ The Great Escape, 19 – 21 may, Brighton

The month of May is soon upon us, and with it the yearly trip to The Great Escape in Brighton. The Great Escape is one festival we truly wouldn’t want to escape from even if we could. Brighton is a wonderful place, full of atmospheric bars, wonderfully weird shops, a legendary beach with a long pop culture tradition, and a vibrant music scene even when there is no festival. Now in its eleventh year, the Great Escape is well established as quite possibly to most important as well as the most attractive independent music sector festival in Europe. It attracts everyone who is anyone in European indie music, including – of course! – Swiss Music Export.

Once again SME in collaboration with Pro Helvetia, Fondation Suisa and the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK, will present a combined showcase/business mixer, complete with beer, sandwiches and, of course, apples.

This year’s live guests are James Gruntz, Fai Baba and Nadine Carina. As in previous years, this event will take place at the Komedia Studio Bar in the middle of Brighton’s shopping area. Unlike last year, however, we will be there on Friday instead of Thursday.

Swiss Business Mixer

Friday 20 May, 12:30 – 16:00
Komedia Studio Bar, Regent Street, Brighton

Entrance is free but you will need a festival accreditation to get in.
Live Acts:

13:15    Nadine Carina
Nadine Carina from the Ticino is a singer/songwriter who laces her electronic beats with all sorts of looped vintage toys, small percussive instruments and other experimental sounds. After completing her studies at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, she now spends most of her time in London. She has released several EPs and albums, most recently, in April 2016, the single “U R Far/Fading Lights”.

14:15  Fai Baba
Guitarist Fai Baba’s sonic spectrum ranges from bruising, distorted psychedelic rock via rousing glam rock choruses to quiet soundscapes which are, if anything, more disturbing and emotionally charged than his louder stuff.

15:15 James Gruntz
The velvety-voiced singer/songwriter from Basel made the Swiss top 10 with his fourth album “Belvedere”, turning him from a well-kept secret into a bona-fide star. It also earned him two Swiss Music Awards in the categories „Best Breaking Act“ and „Artist Award“.
