Hillbilly Moon Explosion’s “With Monsters and Gods” receives UK release

13 May sees the UK release of Hillbilly Moon Explosion’s sixth album, “With Monsters and Gods”. The band is something of an online phenomenon, with seven million Youtube views of their single “My Love For Evermore”. “With Monsters and Gods” follows hard on the heels of “French Kiss”, an album the band recorded with the French-American actress Arielle Dombasle, which came out to great acclaim last October.

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion are Emanuela Hutter, vocals and rhythm guitar, Duncan James, lead guitar, Sylvain Petite, drums, and Oliver Baroni, bass and lead vocals. Formed as part of the Zurich rockabilly scene in 1998, they have wowed live audiences all over Europe. In recent years, their musical scope has been vastly extended from the original rockabilly grooves to include elements of chanson, Americana, swing, and even mariachi.

“With Monsters and Gods” is released in the UK by Jungle Records. Says the band: “Why “With Monsters and Gods”? The song is about our demons and our love. Deep love. And the rest of the album is what can happen if you’re afraid of your demons and ignore them, which might lead you to “depression” and “desperation” and constantly being “down on your knees”.”

Spark Phillips from Demented Are Go guests on the album which contains a couple of telling cover versions: Blondie’s “Call Me”, and Lee & Nancy’s “Jackson”. On their recent European tour the band was augmented by Pete Thomas on saxophone and the unique keyboard and accordion skills of Geraint Watkins.

Hillbilly Moon Explosion are in the middle of an extended tour, taking in Finland, Greece, Tunisia, Switzerland, France, UK, Spain, Netherlands, and Belgium.
