New albums: Carrousel, Francesco Lago & Es Brennt – Was Tun?

When they first ran into other, Sophie Burande from the South of France and Léonard Gogniat from canton Jura, aka Carrousel, were both acordionists. Pooling their song-writing talents as well as their voices and acordions, they have long since extended their instrumental range to include guitars, drums, bass and a variety of other sounds. Their third album „L’Euphorie“ was produced by Jean-Louis Piérot (Bashung, Etienne Daho, Miossec and others). It was released Europe-wide on the German Jazzhaus Records label on 29 January.

Francesca Lago released her dreamy third album „Mirrors against the sun“ via t3 records in Berlin on 15 January. Lago’s songs are usually based on guitar, piano and cello. A deft use of electronica and a talent for beautifully nebulous melodies make this a fine collection of atmospheric dream pop.

Mixing punky and funky beats with a rocking combination of drums, guitars and bass and hints of swing, disco and Neue Deutsche Welle, „Es Brennt – Was Tun?“ have been honing their style for nearly a decade. Having released two albums under a different name with English lyrics, the band from Basel with their charismatic singer Ramona have switched to German lyrics for their debut under the new guise. „Es Brennt – Was Tun?“ was released Europe-wide by N-Gage Productions/Membran Media GmbH on 15 January.
