Verveine, diva of Gothic electronica, and Peter Kernel are the bands to represent Switzerland at the Rockomotives Festival in Vendôme, France. First held in 1992, Les Rockomotives is a festival devoted mainly to up and coming bands. It takes place across the week in several venues in this small and pretty town in the Loire Valley. All in all, there will be around three dozen acts performing. Peter Kernel and Verveine are both scheduled for Friday, 30 October at a venue called Minotaur.

Barbara Lehnhoff and Aris Bassetti call their music „art punk“ which sums it up pretty neatly. Theirs is a guitar-driven, percussive style of post-rock with a nod to techno and electro as well as a hint of minimalist and repetitive Krautrock. Peter Kernel’s second album „Thrill Addict“ was released in January to great acclaim. The band also has a neat line in witty, low-budget videos.

Verveine aka Joelle Nicolas from Vevey caused such a stir last December when she appeared at the Transmusicales de Rennes that she has been invited back to France several times since then. No Verveine show is the same. Layering many different electronic tracks and beats over each other and constantly manipulating them, her performances are an intense experience for both herself and her audience. Verveine’s latest release is an EP, “Antony”, on Creaked Records.
