Arielle Dombasle teaming up with the Hillbilly Moon Explosion for album and gigs

The French-American actress Arielle Dombasle has worked with Eric Rohmer (“Pauline at the Beach”) and Alain Robbe-Grillet (“The Blue Villa”). Now she has teamed up with the Hillbilly Moon Explosion from Zurich to record a splendid album full of 1950s Americana, ranging in style from rockabilly to doo wop, and from classic Country to classic Rhythm & Blues. “French Kiss” was released on 2 October on Universal Music France. To celebrate this event, Dombasle and the Hillbilly Moon Explosion will be playing three shows together in Paris.

Arielle Dombasle, an icon of glamour and French cinema, has long led a dual career as a singer. “French Kiss” is her eighth album, the previous seven having covered a remarkable palette of styles, from New Age electronica to an album of old religious songs. Dombasle met the Hillbilly Moon Explosion at a concert in Paris two years ago. As a great fan of bands like the Cramps and Stray Cats, she recognised in this group a bunch of kindred spirits.

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion from Zurich are Emanuela Hutter, vocals and rhythm guitar, Duncan James, lead guitar, Sylvain Petite, drums, and Oliver Baroni, bass and lead vocals. Formed as part of the Zurich rockabilly scene in 1998, they have toured all over Europe to great acclaim. Before “French Kiss”, the Hillbilly Moon Explosion have released seven albums. A selection of the best tracks from these was released on 25 September 2015“My Love For Evermore” is available here. To celebrate both albums, the Hillbilly Moon Explosion (without Arielle Dombasle) will be touring in Germany, Netherlands, Spain and France throughout November.
