Dagobert with new album
It does not come as a great surprise to find that an artist with a name as peculiar as Dagobert inhabits a musical world that is rather odd, too. Having spent several years isolated in a tiny village in the Grison alps, this singular singer/songwriter has developed a highly individualistic style of song which takes the over-wrought and often clichéd emotionality of German Schlager songs and turns it into something deeply affecting. He manages to do so by dint of a superior lyric writing talent as well as an unusual sense of irony free from any hint of modish cynicism. The frequent use of 80s style synths adds another note of surreal and yet superbly controlled unfashionability to the experience.
20 March saw the release of Dagobert´s second album, “Afrika”. It received high praise in publications as diverse as Süddeutsche Zeitung, GQ Germany, Die Zeit, Welt am Sonntag and Spiegel Online. Dagobert is touring Germany and Switzerland throughout May in support of the album.
