Ticino on the move – Dreamshade, Rocky Wood & Those Furious Flames on tour
The Italian part of Switzerland, the Ticino, has produced a remarkable number of fine young bands in recent years. Three of these – Dreamshade, Rocky Wood and Those Furious Flames – are on tour throughout March and April.

According to their Facebook page, Dreamshade from Lugano are a “modern melodic metal” band. Clearly, they are doing something right: after only two albums – “What Silence Hides” (2011) and “The Gift of Life” (2013) – they are already boasting nearly 120’000 Facebook followers. The quintet has toured almost every corner of the world, including South Africa and North America. Their second album even received an official release in Japan on Zestone Records. Dreamshade are: Kevin Calì (vocals), Fernando „Fella“ Di Cicco (guitars, vocals), Rocco Ghielmini (guitar), Gian-Andrea Costa (bass) and Serafino „Sera“ Chiommino (drums). Starting on 16 March in Wiesbaden, they will set off on an eight-date tour of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. A month later they will be on the road again with seven dates in China, Taiwan and Japan. A new single, “Dreamers Don’t Sleep”, was released on 2 March 2015.

Rocky Wood

Rocky Wood are an Alt-Folk quintet from Lugano. They formed three years ago, and their line-up includes electronics as well as banjo, glockenspiel and vibraphone. Their music is not always quiet – an electric guitar is also part of the picture – but the arrangements are always finely spun, and the mood, subtly guided by Romina Kalsi’s shimmering voice, is elegantly autumnal, suggesting the influence of artists like Espers, Faun Fables or Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Rocky Wood continue to support their impressive debut album “Shimmer”, released last year, with a tour of France , Italy and Switzerland in March and April.

Those Furious Flames

Those Furious Flames are a rock quartet in the classic mould: a hefty dose of Zeppelin, a hint of Kings of Leon, a dash of Kaiser Chiefs and, of course, their very own brand of soaring guitars and impassioned vocals. In the wake of their first album “Trip to Deafness” they toured Europe, Russia and California, playing such legendary venues as the Viper Room, Whisky A GoGo and London’s Academy. Their new album was released worldwide last October by US label Sliptrick Records. Entitled “Oniricon”, it was produced by Ian Peres of Wolfmother. The band are continuing to celebrate the release with a short tour of the Czech Republic, Croatia and Hungary.
