Rootwords at Across Berlin, 22 – 26 July 2014

Pop-jazz-singer Mya Audrey went down a storm during the last series of Across Berlin events in June. Geneva-based rapper Rootwords is set to follow her example in July.

Across Berlin was launched last spring to provide a platform for up-and-coming artists keen to establish their reputation in Germany. Five series of Across Berlin concerts are spread across the summer from May to September, each series consisting of five shows in different venues on five successive days.

Born in the United States to parents of Zambian origin, Rootwords was raised in Switzerland. A rapper since the age of 16 and calling himself a „world citizen rapper„, he has steadily gained respect nationally and internationally for his imaginative style and his message of peace and multi-culturalism. He has won several awards, including „Best Underground Artist“ at the RepreZent Awards 2010, the „Demotape Clinic Urban Award 2013“ at M4Music in Zurich and the „Urban Award“ at Swiss Live Talents 2013 in Berne. As an experienced and charismatic live performer he has shared stages with the likes of IAM, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, Dead Prez, Method Man and Redman.

After a number of EPs under his own name and collaborations with artists like Bastian Baker, Stevans, Sumo and Yves Peacemaker, Rootwords´s debut album „The Rush“ was released in Switzerland on 28 March 2014 and in France on 8 April. Rootwords will be appearing at Across Berlin from 22 – 26 July 2014:
