END release their first album
„People of the Stream’s Mouth“ is the somewhat mysterious-sounding title of the Basle-based quintet END’s debut album which will be released April 11th. Highly ambitious in its stylistic range, concept and presentation, the band’s music hovers in a fascinating space somewhere between pop and left-field alternative rock. Opening track „Alaska“ sets the tone perfectly with its driving percussion, curiously off-kilter synth-line and huge and spooky vocal chorus. There is, by the way, an explanation for the title: it is, apparently, the translation of the Inuit-name „Paimiut“ for the smallest registered „village“ in the endless wilds of Alaska. Ecological and political concerns are a constant theme on an album that defies categorisation and – despite the gloomy band name – is full of hope and gorgeous melodies.
